As a linguist, I have learned that there is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way to speak. However, as the daughter of two amateur language critics, English majors, and otherwise over-educated and delightful people, I firmly believe that there is a wrong way to write. Much in the same way as physical appearance matters when one shows up at a job interview, the written word matters when one publishes any sort of material, whether it’s an article, website, or bookmark.

Before college, I spent much of my free time correcting people’s written documents. I felt that winning second place in the county spelling bee when I was 12 gave me free reign over such matters. Since college, I have been asked more and more frequently to correct people’s written work, which is how Fine Print Editing came to exist.
